How solar thermal energy systems work?
When the sun shine on solar collectors, the flat solar collector receives solar energy in the form of light and heat. The solar energy accumulates in the solar collector and solar thermal energy is transferred to the liquid that flows through the solar collector. Our solar collector is designed so that the accumulation of solar energy occurs in the boundary layer where the liquid flows. This technology helps you make higher temperatures, better efficiency and thereby improve the economy when you invest in solar thermal energy. The flat solar collector will quickly get a temperature that is significantly higher than the temperature of the solar heat storage from where the water circulates. The control unit ensures that the refrigerant (water) is circulated as soon as there is enough energy to extract from the solar collector.
Drain back
We use self-draining technology, so called drain-back. This means that the water that circulates in the flat solar collector is drained back into a drain-back storage when there is no solar energy to take from the solar collectors. The control unit ensures optimal energy yield, while the solar collectors are drained at frost and at temperatures near the boiling point. For the drainage to occur effectively, the solar thermal energy systems should be designed with:
- Continuous drop from the panel to the bottom of the circuit - no water trap
- 5 liters of drain volume per square meter of solar collector
- Pipe size to match the size of the flat solar collector area
The solar thermal energy system is designed to start operation of a circulation pump when the sun contributes with sufficient energy and the control unit can measure these the energy difference. The refrigerant (water) is circulated in the solar collector until no more solar thermal energy can be extracted. When the circulation stops, the water in the solar thermal system is drained into the drain-back storage. Our unique patent makes it possible to use water as the fluid. This provides a wealth of benefits related to energy output, installation, life span, energy balance and price of 0.05 € / kWh.
